“What kind of Milan-Sanremo will it be? Special, as always. Even the 112th edition. First of all, because of the pandemic, the masks, and Covid won’t leave us. That makes everything so surreal. And also, because a new generation of young, strong and very classy cyclists is coming to the fore.” These are the passionate words of Stefano Bruno Galli, Regional Councillor for Culture, speaking with cycling expertise. And when a classic like the Sanremo kicks off…
There’s a fresh desire to talk and write about cycling. Professor Stefano Bruno Galli is fond of the world of cycling, and particularly of the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum in Magreglio, a facility that has always been supported by the Region of Lombardy. As a boy he was a racer and keeps in close contact with the sport. And this is a story – of sports culture and of our country – that excites him in no uncertain terms. Stefano Bruno Galli says and writes about this year’s Milano-Sanremo: “It will be a special Sanremo, as always,. The regional councillor continues, trained in the art of cycling: “As always, the racers will give us a great show. We saw them on the Strade Bianche and in the Tyrrhenian-Adriatic Race. And the photos told the story”. Stefano Bruno Galli climbs over the Turchino (not on this year’s course due to a landslide) and continues over Cipressa and Poggio, as he looks into the heart of cycling: “We will soon return to normalcy. And then we will be able to witness in person the immensity of these endeavors as riders swoop down the Poggio. Fresh in our thoughts are the feats of yesteryear and those of the future. Remember Moser, whose legs captured the Hour Record, in 1984. We will calmly watch exciting sprints in Via Roma, which made us hold our breath. In any case, even in tough times like these, Sanremo will be our special rendevous.” Welcome to the world of predictions, champions of yesterday and today, expectations, promises and a bit of cycling history.
