PRESENTATION OF THE BOOK DEDICATED TO THE “HUMAN LOCOMOTIVE” LEARCO GUERRA, FIRST EVER CHAMPION TO WEAR THE PINK JERSEY AT THE GIRO D’ITALIA
Sunday 19 March 2023, 11.30 am at the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum in Magreglio the presentation of the book “Era mio nonno” written by his nephew Learco jr
Passo del Ghisallo, Magreglio, CO – Over the weekend of the Milano Sanremo, ninety years after the memorable victory of the “Human Locomotive” Learco Guerra, his nephew Learco jr presents the new book “dedicated to his grandfather” in the Casa dei Ciclisti.
“He was my grandfather”, a book that is much more than an affectionate tribute to the memory of a loved one, was born with a dual purpose: to recall the stages of a lightning-fast career with extraordinary rhythms (no one in the history of top cycling won so many races in such a short time) while also telling the story of the champions that Learco Guerra forged with a generosity and foresight that remained unique. The names of Hugo Koblet, Charly Gaul, Carlo Clerici, Rik Van Looy and Vittorio Adorni are enough by themselves to provide sports literature with novel episodes. Learco Jr. he has collected the stimuli by avoiding the paved roads of epic or rhetoric.
Adalberto Scemma writes: “Learco jr, the nephew, has chosen a path that is courageous in many respects: that of ethics. “He was my grandfather”, the non-fictionalized story of the Human Locomotive, gives the Mantuan champion an unprecedented image: there is the tribute of affection duly spent to give substance to the memory of a loved one but there is at the same time the re-enactment devoid of the rhetoric of a lightning-fast career filled with successes but inspired at all times by essential concepts of an ethical nature”.
Pier Bergonzi “This book is a valuable contribution to understanding and deepening the human, as well as the technical, aspects of the Champion War. There is a lot of grandfather Guerra. But it is also an act of love for Mantua and the runners who have made the history of Mantuan sport. Ultimately it is an act of love for cycling that has passed through the generations of Guerra for over a century”.
The presentation will start at 11.30, admission is free.
For the occasion, the first pink jersey from 1931, worn for the first time by Learco Guerra on May 10, 1931, will be exhibited in the museum.
Tomorrow Saturday 18 March it will be possible to watch the live broadcast of Milano Sanremo from 10.30. A good opportunity to visit the museum and follow the classic Spring in the cycling temple.
