Presentation 21st edition
EUREGIOTOUR FOR TRANSPLANTand the 30 CLIMBS OF REBIRTH project.
Ghisallo, April 27th 2024 A presentation will be made on Saturday, April 27, 2024 at 09:30 a.m. at the Ghisallo Cycling Museum on the 21st edition of the 300-kilometer bicycle race “EuregioTour for Transplantation” that will take place from June 28-30, 2024 from Innsbruck to Arco di Trento, organized by the Social Promotion Association Transplant Sportclub.
Transplant Sportclub APS, founded in the summer of the year 1990, is the first sports group for organ transplant recipients established in Italy with the purpose of promoting sports and motor activities for organ transplant recipients and facilitating their participation in the World Transplant Games, including in the winter edition held recently with great success on the snows of Bormio.
Among the Tour’s 80 participants will be more than 30 organ transplant athletes from Italy, Austria, Germany, Great Britain, Spain and Hungary, accompanied by more than 30 doctors, chaperones and supporters. All together they want to show that even people who have undergone organ transplants can live a normal life by playing sports. During the three stages there will be times to meet with local communities and to raise awareness of organ donation and thus give hope to people suffering on dialysis or anxiously awaiting a donation. At the same time they wish to say ” THANK YOU ” to the donors and their families for their noble gesture.
At the same time, the docufilm “The 30 Ascents of Rebirth” will be screened, recounting the feat of Sergio Lorenzi, who faced a serious illness with courage, learning from scratch to move his body. Thanks to his new heart, he is back in the saddle, together with his partner Lorenza, pedaling silently on mountain roads. This experience inspired Sergio to promote organ donation through sports and the stories of those fortunate enough to receive a transplant. This gave rise to the project of “The 30 Ascents of Rebirth,” which saw Sergio and his friends tackle the famous mountain passes of South Tyrol and Trentino, highlighting the stories of suffering and redemption of those who have been given a second chance through organ donation.
“The 30 Ascents of Rebirth” was not just a sporting event, but a step-by-step journey dedicated to participation and sharing life experiences. There were no rankings or prizes; the main goal was to involve as many people as possible, transplanted and non-transplanted.
Speaking at the press conference will be Ghisallo Museum director, architect Carola Gentilini, Transplant Sportclub president Marco Panizza, and a heart transplant cyclist, Sergio Lorenzi of Trento. It will be followed by a bicycle loop ride by some representatives and sympathizers of the Transplan Sportclub association, starting and returning from the museum itself.
