The Ghisallo Cyling Museum grows year by year in the approval rating. Since 2022, the numbers have been on the rise; 2023 was also a good year, with more and more visitors buying a ticket at the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum, closed since November 1 for the winter break. Add to this the visitors to the promotional events, the press, which is always numerous, and the collectors who participate in various capacities, for a total that exceeds 11 thousand visitors in 2024. To this milestone must be added the participation of all those who have crossed the museum’s threshold to bring back a souvenir, satisfy a curiosity or ask for simple information: these are numbers that give satisfaction. Numbers of a passion that grows and of an affection that materializes in the world’s largest museum, dedicated not to a cyclist but to all two-wheel enthusiasts. The home of cyclists.

The Museum’s staff, after a short, well-deserved rest, is once again hard at work preparing activities for the upcoming season, which promises to be just as interesting after a series of exciting events, meetings and successful exhibition projects. The reopening is set for March 1, 2025.

Here are the numbers that tell the story of a successful museum year, that of 2024: the feedback from visits is increasingly positive. In fact, a year ended worth exactly 10,764 total visitors, including 6,059 Italians and 4,715 foreigners, with the percentage of the latter reaching 44 percent against 56 percent of Italians. Last year’s visitors, 2023, numbered 10,446 (including 5,696 Italians and from abroad 4,750). Analyzing the nations that have visited the Ghisallo Cycling Museum, the top prize is won by the United States (646 visitors), then Germany (599), France (506), Australia (429), England (322) and Holland (237), which beats Belgium (218) and Switzerland (167), ahead of Spain (162), Poland (153), Canada (131), Denmark (125) and the Czech Republic (117).

Since 2018, 100 nations have visited the Museum, including Italy. In 2024, 69 different “flags” entered the Museum with 5 new entries: North Macedonia, Azerbaijan, San Marino, Kazakhstan and Belarus.

As for Italy, the region that visits the museum the most is obviously Lombardy, with about 86 percent, followed by Piedmont, Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. All 20 Italian regions visited the museum.

“It has been a very exciting and positive year,“ said the president of the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum Foundation in Magreglio Antonio Molteni, ‘a year that signals the continued growth in popularity and makes us firmly re-launch the new ’subscriptions’ campaign for 2025,” for a season that promises to be even more interesting. And I must say a personal thank you to the sponsors who in various ways support our initiatives and the Museum, year after year, and to a staff of volunteers who are the beating heart of “daily energy” in this place.”

“It was also a year of news and donations: 212 donations were recorded, a real growth in the collection of memorabilia, but also in the library and the photographic archives, a total of 250 “pieces” more,” says director Carola Gentilini, ”and I would like to take this opportunity to thank above all Marc André Elsig, the Swiss collector who collaborated for the Tour de France exhibition for his generous cooperation and the extraordinary extra collection of jerseys that has been enriched thanks to the 2024 exhibitions, with unexpected and unusual donors, including and especially local ones.

It has been a very rich 2024 museum season characterized by three temporary exhibitions, more than twenty events at the museum with important guests, and numerous collaborations outside the museum. And the next one will be no less. Already planned, as announced during the temporary exhibition dedicated to the Tour de France, is the inauguration of the new Ghisallo in Giallo Collection mirroring the Ghisallo in Rosa Collection, a display of the jerseys of the leaders of the two great stage races. And work is already underway on a temporary exhibition that will pay homage to the great Eddy Merckx.

Next year will be another year to be framed, and that is why The Ghisallo Cycling Museum invites all cycling enthusiasts and others to join the subscription campaign for the 2025 season, signing up for a membership that is ideal for the individual enthusiast and aimed overwhelmingly at all the sports clubs that love and live the sport year-round. The goal is to create an ever-closer relationship between the Museum, “the home of all cyclists,” and its supporters. All modalities are indicated on the museum’s official website at this link:
