Agostino Omini’s Centennial: Presentation of the book “A Life on the Road – From Milan to the World: Behind the Scenes of Great Cycling” at the Ghisallo Museum.

A journey through the “hieroglyphs” of the unpublished diaries of the man who modernized the world of cycling. The book features a prestigious foreword by Pier Augusto Stagi and the invaluable collaboration of Ivo Bensa, who, with great dedication, helped the family bring Agostino’s memories and unpublished notes to life.
To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of the most influential figures in international cycling, the Madonna del Ghisallo Cycling Museum will host the presentation of the book “A Life on the Road: From Milan to the World: Behind the Scenes of Great Cycling”, a volume that serves as both a historical account and a heartfelt tribute from his daughters to their father’s memory.
A story drawn from the famous “notebooks” that Omini compiled over decades, preserving anecdotes, political challenges, and visions that transformed the world of motorcycles, making it more organized and modern.
The book, edited by his daughters Antonella and Elisabetta Omini and published by Angelo Giudici’s Antea Edizioni, stems from a desire to share the “logbook” of a man who navigated the 20th century with vision and courage. From his humble beginnings as a messenger at age 12 for just 7 lire a day, all the way to the top of the International Cycling Union (UCI), Agostino Omini’s life reflects Italy’s economic boom and the rebirth of sports.
The text is not merely a chronology of achievements, but an effort to “decipher” Omini’s handwritten diaries, made possible in part by the contribution of Ivo Bensa, a close friend and “Rosetta Stone” capable of interpreting the executive’s handwritten notes.
The pages reveal behind-the-scenes details about the Six Days of Milan—which Omini transformed into a social event comparable to the “La Scala” of cycling—and the founding of the UEC (Union Européenne de Cyclisme) in 1990, of which he was a founding member. Omini was the man who transformed the world of cycling, making it more organized and modern.
