“I Portacolori della Siof” – Memories of Forgotten Valiant Cyclists Museo Ghisallo Editore (Cycling Stories Series) – Author: Luciana Rota
The Portacolori della Siof – The story of a team sponsored by a mineral color factory in Lower Piedmont, Alessandria. This is the story of Biagio Cavanna, the first cycling school in Italy—a boarding house built between Pozzolo Formigaro and Novi Ligure, designed to train purebred racers: powerful, courageous, tireless. Each one unique, competing against each other, yet all united by a single goal: to win every prize and conquer the Coppa Italia, a team time trial that was almost a diploma issued by the brilliant blind masseur. The museum visit provides an introduction to the world of cycling, capturing students’ attention with interesting objects and documents in preparation for the hands-on workshop chosen by the teacher.
The learning experience continues in a dedicated space where students can observe, listen, think, and create, starting from the comparison of objects, newspapers, photographs, and carefully selected films, as well as recorded oral testimonies from the museum’s archives.
In the workshop, students also have the opportunity to explore and decode words and expressions from cycling jargon, a testament to a sport that has shaped society and the athletic world for over a century.

By reservation, a Guide at the Museum (in English, French, and German) leads visits through all the exhibition areas, retracing the history of cycling and its protagonists. Especially fun for school groups and/or families is the “Mirabilia Hunt,” also available by reservation, which allows visitors to learn the Museum’s story through a playful experience.

For who
The program is designed for families with children aged between 6 and 10 years. Each child must be accompanied by an adult. One adult may accompany up to five children, and no more than two adults may accompany each child.
It is ideal for groups of elementary school students accompanied by their teachers, or for sports groups with adult chaperones.
What to bring from home
Sleeping bag, camping mat, pillow, overnight and personal hygiene essentials, comfortable clothes and shoes, flashlight (to be used during the exploration activities of the collections).

Meal time
The activity at the museum starts at 8:00 PM and does not include dinner. The museum provides a light snack for Saturday morning breakfast. However, you are welcome to bring your own snacks and drinks inside the museum.
Upon request, a group pizza dinner can be arranged at a restaurant near the museum before entry.
